Obligatory turkey photo - Yes, I'm kissing the turkey.

Sunday was the annual Annapolis Striders Cold Turkey 10k; the graduation race for those that completed the 10k training program with the club. The class did an AMAZING job on the course despite it being a bit daunting due to the number and size of some of the hills they had to tackle. I, being the sick puppy that I am, loved the course - especially all the hills.

No, seriously...I loved the hills! I have a thing for running hills. Not sure why...I just do.

Before the race I popped some energybits. This was a first time thing for me. I wanted to give something new a try. Something other than caffeine which really does not work for me. They are made from 100% organic spirulina algae. You can read more about the bits in my review or by visiting their site

The day before the race, I joined up with some of my friends for a four mile jaunt around Annapolis which earned me a bit of grief considering that there was a race the following day. I personally was only viewing the Cold Turkey as a training run with a shirt and was not setting out for a PR so running the day before did not matter to me.

I got a PR anyway.

It was hard not to.  My first 10k was measured incorrectly and ended up being short. I ran it in 01:06:24 with an average pace of 11:06/Mile.

I ran the Cold Turkey in 1:00:50 with an average pace of 10:08/Mile. A huge improvement, especially once you take into consideration the hills and that it was the correct distance. This race was also unchipped. Here's my Nike details:

Alright, I will have to admit that I do wonder what my time would have been had I not ran the day before. I guess I will just have to give that a shot next year.

...and as for the bits.  Well, I believe I have finally found something that will give me the sustained energy I have been looking for but not with all the chemicals or BS that you find other products that are on the market. I am will be doing a longer run this weekend #PoweredByBits. We will see how it goes.

    1. My long run got waylaid due to weather and a sinus infection. I'm hoping to get one in soon. Fingers Crossed!
