Ugly Sweater Fun Run - 1st Place Winner
at Annapolis Running Ship
With the holiday season in full swing, it is easy to fill your schedule up with a plethora of themed races and fun runs. Ugly Sweater Runs seem to be the most popular. I have also seen Jingle Bell Runs, Santa Runs, and an Egg Nog Jog.

Yesterday, I participated in the Celtic Solstice 5 Miler - a race packed full of holiday spirit, warm wassail, Irish Stew, and bag pipes. There were supposed to be Irish Wolfhounds but I never saw any.

Wolfhounds aside, it was a fun race and a great opportunity to goof off with good friends. Of course, it was also a cold race. It could have been far worse, though. The original weather forecast called for snow and possible mixed precipitation during the actual race. Instead, we only got a few flurries and then rain came in during the afternoon and held on through the evening. Despite the cold weather, I still managed to finish in 50:34 - a new PR for me.

If ugly sweater, solstice, and jingle bell runs are not bold enough for you, Annapolis hosts an Annual Santa Speedo Run which reportedly drew record numbers last year. I wonder if that will be the same case this year. I am a little too modest to participate in this event but I may try to show up with a camera to document it...then again, if I can find something that meets my modesty needs, I may join in on the shenanigans. Anything is possible.

Now I am off to find my ugly sweater for tomorrows fun run with another local shop, Spark Running in Severna Park, MD. I will be sure to post pictures of my findings on my facebook page. Be sure to to like my page to keep up with my misadventures.

  1. Congrats on the PR. Sounds like the race was a whole lot of fun. I wasn't able to participate in any December Holiday themed runs because I have too many relatives to buy presents for. Dang people need to move away. haha.

    1. Celtic was the only themed run that I had to pay for. The rest were free fun runs sponsored by local running shops. As for present shopping, a friend of mine is threatening all her relatives with ugly race premiums as gifts this year.

  2. Congratulations on the PR! I'm not sure if I would brave a Sanata Speedo race!

    1. Yeah...I opted out of the Speedo Race. I like a little more fabric.

  3. that's one of the downsides to FL, too hot for ugly sweater runs...it's not the same with people in just shorts and sports bras!

    1. I just discovered ugly sweater tshirts. No, seriously. My work's corporate office designed one and I got one as a gift. It's cotton and not ideal for running, but still...it definitely qualifies as ugly.
