HEYLETS Got Me Into This Mess #1

HEYLETS - as in, HEYLETS go run this 5k and HEYLETS go run that 10k or HEYLETS go run a Marathon and, not long ago, HEYLETS run a 50k two weeks after that marathon we're running but the day before that 10k we signed up for.

Excuse me – a 50k? Yes, a 50k.

I really have lost my mind.
Of course, I did what any other reasonable person trying to maintain sanity would do; I messaged my Sole Sister, Cindy. She would be the voice of reason that I would need to talk me down off this ridiculous ledge I had suddenly found myself teetering on.

No, seriously, that was her reply. Not kidding.

She was ecstatic. Being unchartered territory for both of us - a step into the unknown as a duo had her overjoyed and with that, I was completely sold on running a 50k. Crazy? Yes - but we are all mad here.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am still somewhat freaked because Cindy is the six time marathoner and I am the zero time marathoner and truth be told, I am far more afraid of the marathon than I am of the ultra. Nonetheless, here I go off into the wild blue yonder chasing unicorns for some unforeseen number of miles to and through a marathon in order to reach an Ultra.

My personal opinion - they skin unicorns to make race signs. Just saying. It's my opinion and I have a right to it, but it would explain why unicorn sightings are few and far between.

Anyway, the first week of training kicked off Monday and I am trying not to have a panic attack. Ok, technically I already failed at that since I've had one already. Maybe I should just have faith in the training and it will all work out.
In the mean time, stay tuned for my weekly updates on Marathon and Ultra training. This should prove interesting - for me, at the very least.

  2. Wow, my sister (who is also a 6 or 7 x marathoner) would love this. I on the other hand with think twice ( or three times). Good luck to you in your training! -M

    1. Thank you. I'm just glad I'm not in this mess alone. I've got good people working with me along the way.
